This course provides a survey of the categories and types of the world’s literature for children and adolescents. It provides opportunities to read, enjoy, and discuss a wide variety of children and young adults’ books and resources and to learn strategies to comprehend, interpret, analyze, and evaluate texts of varying genres. This course will help in developing personal understandings of how children and adolescent’s literature can be used to foster awareness, compassion, and insights into interpersonal relationships, cultural differences, and social justice. Students will learn to develop aesthetic appreciation and applying their developing skills to diverse situations, resources, and ideas.
