This core course introduces production and operations function in an organization, helping students understand how managers design, use, manage and improve systems and processes to create value to their customers effectively and efficiently. Topics include competitiveness, strategy and productivity, forecasting, product and service design, strategic capacity planning, process selection and capacity layout, design of work systems, location planning and analysis, quality management, supply chain management and inventory management.

This is a comprehensive introductory course that deals with the fundamental theories and principles of management, as well as their application in business organizations. Students will explore the fundamental roles and processes of planning, organizing, leading and controlling that comprise the manager’s role. It focuses on the entire organization from both a short and long –term perspective for strategic vision, setting objectives, crafting a strategy and then implementing it. Students will develop skills related to the manager’s function as required in today’s competitive environment.
